Ok, so my fractured leg had healed, but I still had a torn ACL. And I knew I couldn’t haul the potting mix. Thankfully my beloved spouse agreed to help out, and we got the garden set up.
It started last Saturday when my daughter and I went to Love Apple Farms to buy my tomato plants. This year I promised I wouldn’t plant too many. Last year, I planted 23 but I’d gotten some from the local Master Gardeners’ sale as well. So I only bought 16, and then they gave me one for free.
I got home, and the weather was so gorgeous that I dragged my husband, ahem, I mean my dear husband volunteered to help me get potting mix. I got 15 large bags since I had to refill 29 (one didn’t make it and cracked) Garden Patch Grow Box Terra Cotta. I also needed to add additional potting mix to some of the other containers that had my blueberry bushes and strawberry plants and my fruit trees in containers.
We got the soil into the containers, and called it a night. Sunday, I went to SummerWind with my daughter to get some 16-16-16 fertilizer and then to CVS to get epsom salt. I mixed it with my Mittleider Miracle Minerals.
I used two medium sized Roughneck containers to store it. I mixed the potting mix with the fertilizer and worm castings, and planted my lovely tomatoes.

I planted 2 – tomatillas and 2 different eggplant that I picked up from SummerWind. The tomatillas are my experiment this year. I decided against peppers.
Then I planted the seeds I got from Burpee. I’m really looking forward to seeing how their container cantaloupe turns out.
What are you planting as old reliable and what is your experiment this year? And what did you forget to plant?
