I don’t think much is more horrifying to a home gardener then to say goodnight to:
And then wake up to:
I was gobsmacked. This has never happened in the five years I’ve been farming in my suburban backyard!
It wasn’t the squirrels because they wait until a tomato is half ripened, pull it off, take a bite & then throw it away before taking another half ripened tomato. Or they roll around in the dirt, but at least the seeds germinate.
So then I got stupid. I bought some tomato plants and some cucumber starts and planted them! But the next day…
My husband suspected it could be a possum or a racoon. Other online resources mentioned rats. We aren’t in an area that gets deer or rabbits.
So I bought this:
Mostly because it had cayenne in it. And I sprinkled it around the base of the containers, not in it, because the instructions said not to put it on food crops.
Well, I have to say it worked. The destruction of the crops has dramatically dropped off. I’ll post more pics soon. I did replant the radishes and carrots.
