Suburban Vegetable Gardener

I’m trying to remember last year at this time.  And that just reinforces the need to have a gardening journal so you can double check how things grew.  Some of the asparagus has popped up and are shooting out asparagus, but they’re not thick, and they feather out quickly.

But what’s really bothering me is that some that popped up last year haven’t yet!  And they’re still so tiny.  I did put down blood meal and worked it into the soil for a nice nitrogen boost.    At some point, I want to take my compost and smother it a bit on the whole bed.

And here I had grand dreams of asparagus soup this year.  I do worry that the soil is too heavy clay and that I should have amended it with sand for better drainage.

And that’s how it is sometimes with gardening…ever an adventure.
