I just had to share.  The seedlings I planted on Saturday have sprouted!  Ok, just the indoor ones, and only some of them.   I’m still waiting to see the outdoor ones pop their smiling faces out of the soil.

 My sprouts have sprouted!

I love seeing them sprout.  Of course I get sad when I have to thin them down icon smile My sprouts have sprouted!   I use small snips and just cut it at the base rather then pulling it out.  It is easier on the root system for the survivor.

I got lazy.  I confess.  I paid some attention to the cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage and Brussels Sprouts that I’d planted back in September, but I didn’t give them love.

Here’s a picture after a cold snap that we had:

They’re doing much better, although not everyone survived.

 Winter Vegetables

This past weekend, I went to my local Summerwind Nursery and bought some bare root blackberries and blueberries, and some seed starter dirt.  I really wanted to buy some potatoes, and I might still.  The year I grew them in the containers, it didn’t work out well.  So I didn’t grow them last year.  The ones I did harvest two years ago were so creamy and tasty.  So every year, I’m tempted.

I might plant them over by my compost pile dumping out area.  My composter was full, and I dumped it all along the fence.  So this year, I’m going to put in some bean pole towers, and I’m going to staple some netting along the fence, and use that area to grow green beans, edamame and peas.  I wish more people in my family liked lima beans, but you have to go with what your family will eat, right?

 Winter Vegetables

This past Halloween’s pumpkin hasn’t decomposed yet.  I suppose I should go out & help it along.

I started broccoli, cauliflower, romanesco, and oodles of tomatoes.  It’s so hard to pull myself back from starting too many.  I can successfully grow two in each container:

I’ll be planting the broccoli, cauliflower and romanesco in about a month or two. The tomatoes won’t go in until May.  I planted radishes, turnips, carrots, lettuce, and spinach.  Oh and I guess I planted some beets as well.

What seedlings have you started?
